What you need
- A Perplexity account (check that your plan includes scheduled tasks and connected accounts before you rely on tasks five and six)
- Your watchlist as a short list of tickers
- Optional: a brokerage you're willing to connect read-only for task six
Steps
The 60-second morning check
Open perplexity.ai/finance. The top row is futures, the dollar and the VIX; under it is a market summary written from overnight news and a heatmap by sector. Read it top to bottom once. If something in the summary touches your book, click it and read the sources before you do anything else.
Ask a stock anything
Search a ticker and use the Ask box on its page instead of a general thread. The answer is pinned to that company's filings and data, so a question like the one below comes back with the numbers and a chart rather than a paragraph of hedging.
Compare NVIDIA's gross margin to AMD's over the last four quarters. Show the numbers side by side and tell me which way the gap is moving.
Earnings calls, minus the hour
On the Earnings tab, open the call you care about and ask what changed in guidance. You want the raised or cut outlook, any margin guide and the one line management repeated. Prompt #006 does the same job in Claude if you have the transcript yourself.
Here is an earnings call transcript. Tell me: 1) how guidance changed versus last quarter, 2) the three things analysts pushed hardest on, 3) any question management didn't really answer. Quote the exact lines. No opinion on the stock.
Let the watchlist come to you
Create a watchlist with the names you actually hold or trade, then set a price alert on each one. The alert reaches you where you are; you stop refreshing. Keep the list short enough that an alert still means something.
The real hands-off move: a scheduled brief
In Perplexity Computer, create a scheduled task. Give it the time, the watchlist and the shape of the answer you want. It lands in your inbox before the open and you read it with coffee rather than building it. Check the first few against what actually moved before you trust it.
Every weekday at 7 a.m., summarize overnight news and pre-market moves for my watchlist: [tickers]. Lead with anything that changed guidance, ratings or price by more than 2%. Keep it under 200 words and link every claim.
Ask about your real holdings
Connect your brokerage through Plaid in the Portfolio section, read-only. Then ask about concentration and sector exposure. The answer is only as good as the connection, so check the account list it shows against what you actually hold before reading anything into the percentages.
Before you rely on it
- You've read the morning page once and clicked through to at least one source
- Your watchlist has alerts on every name, and nothing you don't trade
- The scheduled brief has arrived three mornings running and matched what moved
- If you connected a brokerage, it's read-only and the account list is correct
- You still know where each number came from before you act on it

Frequently asked questions
- Is Perplexity Finance free?
- The finance page, ticker pages and watchlists are available on the free tier. Scheduled tasks and brokerage connections depend on plan; check Perplexity's pricing page for the current limits.
- Can Perplexity send me a pre-market brief automatically?
- Yes, through a scheduled task in Perplexity Computer. Give it the time, the watchlist and the answer format, and it lands in your inbox before the open. Check the first few against what actually moved.
- Is it safe to connect my brokerage to Perplexity?
- The connection is through Plaid and read-only, so it cannot trade. Check the account list it shows against what you actually hold before reading any concentration or exposure answer.
- How is asking on a ticker page different from a normal Perplexity search?
- The ticker page's Ask box is pinned to that company's filings and data, so you get numbers and a chart rather than a general web answer.
- Can Perplexity summarise an earnings call?
- On the Earnings tab you can open a call and ask what changed in guidance. If you have the transcript yourself, Prompt #006 does the same job in Claude.
