What you need
- Claude and Perplexity accounts (free tiers work)
- Your current positions and watchlist as a plain list
- Something to paste the results into: notes app, email draft, anywhere you'll look
Steps
Make a positions list you can paste
Keep a plain text list of tickers you hold and tickers you're watching. Update it when it changes, not every morning. This is the only input the routine needs.
Sunday night: the week's calendar
Run Prompt #010 in Perplexity with your positions pasted in. Keep the output open all week. It's your map of when things can move.
I hold [positions]. List only this week's economic releases, earnings and scheduled events that could move those names. For each: day, time in ET, consensus, prior and one line on why it matters to my book. Link every source.
Each morning, first: what moved overnight
Run Prompt #004 in Perplexity. Three stories, one line each, with links. Read it in under a minute and click through to anything that touches your names.
Summarise the three biggest market-moving stories since yesterday's close. One line each, with the source link. No forecasts.
Then: your names, one line each
Run Prompt #003 in Claude with your list. You get overnight news, next earnings date and one risk per ticker. The format is fixed so your eye goes straight to what's different from yesterday.
For each ticker in [list], give me the overnight news in one line, the next earnings date, and one risk to watch. Link every source. No price predictions.
Pin the prompts so you never retype them
In Claude, start a Project and put the positions list and Prompt #003 in the project instructions. In Perplexity, do the same with a Project from the left sidebar, or bookmark the thread. Morning becomes: open, type 'go', read.

Perplexity's home screen. Projects live in the left sidebar; the ask box is where Prompt #004 goes. Cross-check one thing before the open
Pick the single item from the three outputs that matters most to your book today and verify it at the source. The routine finds things; it doesn't confirm them.
Of everything above, which one item is most likely to move my positions today, and what is the primary source for it?
Before you rely on it
- The same three prompts run in the same order every day
- Every claim you act on has a source link you opened
- Your positions list is current
- The whole thing takes ten minutes, not thirty

Frequently asked questions
- What does a 10-minute pre-market routine with AI look like?
- Three prompts in a fixed order: what moved overnight (Perplexity), your names one line each (Claude), and a weekly calendar run on Sunday night (Perplexity). Each output has links; you click through on anything touching your book.
- How do I stop retyping the same prompts every morning?
- Put the positions list and the prompt in a Claude Project's instructions, and use a Project or a bookmarked thread in Perplexity. The morning becomes open, type go, read.
- Should I use Claude or Perplexity for pre-market news?
- Both, for different jobs. Perplexity for overnight news and the calendar because it cites sources you can open; Claude for the per-ticker one-liners because the format stays fixed from day to day.
- Can I act on what the AI tells me before the open?
- Only after verifying it at the source. The routine finds things; the last step is to pick the one item that matters most to your book today and confirm it yourself.
