Brokers with AI agents in 2026: what Robinhood, Public, IBKR and the rest actually let you do
You probably don't need a new broker to use an AI agent. In the last six months Public, Interactive Brokers, Robinhood, Webull, tastytrade, eToro, moomoo and Coinbase have all shipped either an assistant inside their app, an agent that runs on its own, or a connector that lets Claude, ChatGPT or Grok read your account and draft orders. This page lists what each one does today, taken from the broker's own pages on the date above, and ranks them on how much they let an agent do and how clearly you stay in control.
Key takeaways
- There are three different things being called an agent. An in-app assistant answers questions and drafts orders (Robinhood Cortex, Webull Vega, moomoo AI Assistant). A connector lets the AI you already pay for read your account and propose trades (IBKR, Webull, eToro, tastytrade, Public MCP). A standing agent runs on its own rules around the clock (Public Agents, Robinhood Agentic Trading, eToro agent portfolios, Coinbase for Agents).
- Who approves the trade is the line that matters. IBKR, tastytrade, Webull's in-app orders and Robinhood Cortex all put a human between the AI and the market. Public's MCP server, Robinhood's agent beta and Coinbase for Agents can place orders without your input on each one, within limits you set.
- Almost none of this costs extra. Every connector here is included with a funded account at standard commissions. The exception is Robinhood, where Cortex and Digests need Gold at $5 a month.
- Asset coverage is uneven. IBKR and tastytrade reach options, futures and futures options from chat. Robinhood's agent beta is equities only. Coinbase is crypto only for now.
- Region decides more than feature lists. eToro's connectors are not available to US, Australian or Singaporean clients; IBKR's are live across the US, Canada, the UK, Europe, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia; Robinhood and Public are US products.

What a broker's AI agent is (and what it is not)
A broker AI agent is software, run by or connected to your broker, that takes plain-English instructions and turns them into account actions: a portfolio question answered from your real positions, a screener built from a sentence, an order ticket drafted from a brief, or a standing rule that trades when its conditions are met. The difference from the research tools in our stock research shortlist is that these have your account behind them.
Three designs are in the market. The first is an assistant inside the broker's app, which can see your account but usually cannot submit orders itself. The second is a connector, normally built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which lets an outside AI such as Claude or ChatGPT read your account and propose trades, with the broker's app or a confirmation step as the gate. The third is a standing agent that runs on a schedule or a trigger and can execute inside limits you set.
What none of these are: advice. Every broker here says its tool does not recommend what to buy or sell, and that you carry the risk for anything an agent does. Two brokers that are not on the list: Schwab announced Charley on September 30, 2026, a conversational assistant rolling out from October that answers questions and handles tasks like watchlists and alerts but is not described as placing trades; and Fidelity has no AI trading assistant we could verify on its US pages.
How we ranked these brokers
Ranked on five things you can check on the broker's own site. We did not rank on commissions, app design or how good the broker is otherwise; this is only about the agent.
- What it can do. Read-only answers, drafting orders, or executing them. Standing agents that run on their own rules rank above assistants that only answer questions.
- Who approves the trade. Whether the design puts a human between the AI and the market, and whether that is a default you can tighten or loosen.
- Where it works. Inside the broker's app only, or through the assistant you already use (Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, Perplexity) via a connector or MCP server.
- What it can trade. Asset classes and order types the agent actually supports today, not what is announced as coming.
- Cost and availability. Whether it needs a paid tier, which regions can use it, and whether it is live, beta or waitlist, as stated on the broker's pages on the updated date.
Brokers with AI agents in 2026, ranked
Each entry says what the agent does, how orders get approved, which AI platforms it connects to and what it costs. Everything here comes from the broker's own product pages, help articles and press releases; features described as coming soon are marked as such.
1. Public, best for agents inside the app and in your own AI, with the most asset classes
- Agent
- Agents in-app (Agentic Brokerage) and Public MCP server
- Can it trade
- Yes, in-app agents and via MCP; multi-leg options supported
- Approval
- Sign-off before an agent runs; MCP trades can execute without per-trade input
- Connects to
- Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Grok, Muse
- Cost
- Included; standard fees
- Region
- US
Public has gone furthest. Inside the app, Agents (Public calls the product Agentic Brokerage) take a prompt such as a trading rule or a cash-management task, propose a workflow you can edit with follow-up prompts, and then run on a recurring basis, monitoring the market and acting when the criteria are met. There is also a marketplace of ready-made agents across categories including market monitoring, trading strategies, fund management and risk management. Every agent requires your explicit sign-off before it goes live, and Public notes that certain capabilities on the page are not yet available.
Outside the app, the Public MCP server connects your account to Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Grok and Muse. From there you can pull quotes, option chains and Greeks, review positions and P&L, run a preflight check that shows cost and buying-power impact, and place market, limit, stop and stop-limit orders, including multi-leg options strategies. Public's own disclosure is blunt: trades may be executed by your AI agent without your direct input on each transaction, so set the confirmation rule you want in the agent's instructions.
Both are included with a Public account at no extra cost; standard brokerage fees apply. Supported assets across the two are US-listed stocks, ETFs, options, crypto and bonds, in individual brokerage and IRA accounts.
Best suited for: Traders who want a standing agent without writing code, and people who already work in Claude or ChatGPT and want it to see and trade the account. Skip the MCP route if you are not comfortable setting your own confirmation rules.

2. Interactive Brokers, best for a human approving every trade, across the most markets
- Agent
- AI Integration (connectors) and Ask IBKR
- Can it trade
- Drafts instructions; you approve each one in the AI Instructions tab
- Approval
- Every instruction, by design
- Connects to
- Claude, ChatGPT, Grok
- Assets
- Equities, ETFs, options, futures, futures options
- Cost
- Included
IBKR's AI Integration went live with Claude on June 1, 2026 and added ChatGPT and Grok on June 22. You link your existing account through the AI platform's connector marketplace with your IBKR login; no API keys or passwords are shared with the AI provider. The connector exposes positions, open orders, trade history, margin and market data, so you can ask what share of the portfolio is in technology, which position has the largest unrealised loss, or how to hedge an exposure, and get an answer from your own account.
The design is explicitly human-in-the-middle. The AI generates trade instructions, which appear in a dedicated AI Instructions tab on the Orders and Trades page across IBKR's platforms, and nothing reaches the market until you approve it there. Coverage at the June 22 update was equities, ETFs, options, futures and futures options.
Alongside the connectors, Ask IBKR answers portfolio questions in plain English inside Client Portal (available to select clients at the time of writing), and the AI Integration page lists AI screeners, investment themes and AI news summaries. It is available at no extra cost with no new account required, in the US and the countries served by IB LLC, plus Canada, the UK, Europe, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia.
Best suited for: Active traders and anyone outside the US who wants an AI to do the analysis while a person presses the button. Skip it if you want an agent that trades while you sleep; that is not what IBKR built.
3. Robinhood, best in-app copilot for Gold members; autonomous agents in beta
- Agent
- Cortex (in-app), Cortex Digests, Agentic Trading via MCP (beta)
- Can it trade
- Cortex drafts, you submit; agent beta can execute, equities only
- Approval
- Cortex: always. Agent beta: not per trade
- Connects to
- Any agent via Robinhood MCP servers
- Cost
- Gold, $5/mo, for Cortex and Digests
- Region
- US
Robinhood has two layers. Cortex is the in-app copilot for Gold members ($5 a month): ask how the portfolio is doing, what a term means, or for a screen such as large-cap stocks with low P/E ratios, and it answers from your account and market data, with voice input if you want it. It can create market, stop and limit orders, but you review and submit them; it does not do multi-leg options or futures, has no open-web browsing or social sentiment, and Robinhood says plainly it gives no buy or sell recommendations. Cortex Digests, also Gold, are plain-language summaries of what is moving a stock, ETF or crypto asset.
The second layer is Agentic Trading, announced on May 27, 2026 and in beta. You bring an agent from anywhere and connect it to Robinhood's MCP servers, and it can place orders without your direct input on each transaction. At the time of writing it supports equities only, with options, crypto, event contracts and futures listed as coming soon. There is also an Agentic Credit Card for Gold Card holders, where you can opt in to approving each purchase manually.
Robinhood is a US product; Cortex Digests are described as a rolling release that may not have reached every account yet.
Best suited for: Robinhood Gold members who want questions answered and orders drafted without leaving the app. Wait on the agent beta unless you only trade equities and are comfortable with orders you don't confirm one by one.
4. Webull, best free in-app assistant plus a command line for people who script
- Agent
- Vega AI (in-app), connectors, CLI, MCP skills
- Can it trade
- In-app: drafts a ticket you review. CLI: multi-asset trading
- Approval
- In-app orders reviewed before submission
- Connects to
- ChatGPT, Claude, Grok
- Assets (CLI)
- Stocks, options, futures, crypto, event contracts
- Cost
- Included for eligible users
Vega AI is Webull's built-in assistant: market recaps, options insights, a portfolio review and natural-language orders, where you describe the trade and it turns the instruction into an order ticket for you to review before submission. It works as soon as you are in the app, with no separate tier named on the page.
On August 4, 2026 Webull added native connectors for ChatGPT, Claude and Grok, giving those assistants access to account information, market data, research, portfolios, watchlists and order activity for research, monitoring and account-review workflows. The same release introduced a Webull command-line interface covering real-time data, positions and multi-asset trading across stocks, options, futures, crypto and event contracts, built so it can be wired into your own agents, and expanded the MCP skills with capital-flow analysis, industry comparison, forecast EPS, SEC filings and earnings and dividend calendars.
The connectors and CLI are for eligible users with the relevant permissions; Webull's page says you are solely responsible for verifying order details before execution.
Best suited for: Retail traders who want recaps and a drafted ticket for free, and anyone comfortable in a terminal who wants to build their own agent on a brokerage CLI. Skip the CLI if you have never run one.
5. tastytrade, best for options traders who want multi-leg orders from chat, with a confirmation on every one
- Agent
- Open API MCP
- Can it trade
- Yes, including multi-leg options; each order confirmed
- Approval
- Separate confirmation on every order
- Connects to
- Any MCP client: Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Perplexity
- Assets
- Stocks, equity and index options, futures, futures options, crypto
- Cost
- Included with a funded account
tastytrade's Open API MCP, published August 31, 2026, connects a funded account to any MCP client: Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code or Perplexity are named. From there the AI can pull real-time quotes and implied volatility, view option chains and Greeks, read account history, research a strategy, and build and place single-leg and multi-leg orders including spreads, straddles and condors, with limit and GTC order types.
Any action that places or modifies an order requires a separate confirmation; tastytrade's wording is that the account owner must confirm every trade. Setup needs Node.js installed on your machine, which is the main hurdle for a non-technical user.
Coverage is stocks, equity and index options, futures, futures options and crypto. tastytrade also acquired Wagl, an AI trading technology company, in May 2026; its tools are not yet in the platform and are not counted here.
Best suited for: Options traders who already use Claude or Perplexity and want chains, Greeks and a drafted condor in the same window. Skip it if installing Node.js is a dealbreaker.
6. eToro, best outside the US for agents that trade in their own sub-portfolio
- Agent
- Tori, agent portfolios, connectors
- Can it trade
- Agent portfolios execute within set parameters; connectors propose actions
- Approval
- Connectors: review and approve. Agent portfolios: parameters set up front
- Connects to
- Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, Grok Bot
- Region
- Connectors not available in US, Australia, Singapore
- Cost
- Not stated separately
Tori is eToro's AI companion, relaunched on April 16, 2026 with persistent memory of your portfolio and real-time X sentiment via Grok 4.2. The relaunch added agent portfolios: you define the operating parameters and the agent executes a strategy inside a dedicated sub-portfolio. eToro's new app, unveiled July 7, 2026, is built around this, with agents you can build or copy running around the clock in their own sub-accounts and Tori reachable from WhatsApp and Apple Watch.
On October 8, 2026 eToro launched connectors for Claude, ChatGPT, Grok and Grok Bot, built on MCP. They give the assistant your actual holdings, positions, balances and performance for research and analysis, and read-and-act access where offered, with any action proposed for review and approval. Funding and withdrawals cannot be done through the chat.
The connectors are not available to clients in the US, Australia or Singapore, and eToro notes that not all products are available to US users generally.
Best suited for: European and UK investors who want an agent ring-fenced in a sub-portfolio and the ability to ask Claude about the account. US readers can skip this entry.
7. moomoo, best in-app analysis that is explicitly not autonomous, plus an API for your own agents
- Agent
- AI Assistant (in-app), API Skills
- Can it trade
- In-app tools: no. API Skills: strategies you control, paper trading by default
- Approval
- User remains the authority on every transaction
- Connects to
- Your own agent via API Skills
- Markets
- US, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan
- Cost
- No subscription fee for in-app AI
moomoo's AI Assistant is a conversational tool inside the app that draws on live market data, premium news and built-in stock and options analysis, alongside AI stock analysis, announcement summaries, trend projection and a pattern finder that scans for chart patterns. moomoo describes these as decision-making aids, not autonomous systems, and offers them without subscription fees.
For people who want an agent, moomoo API Skills, announced April 23, 2026, let you connect your own AI agent to moomoo's infrastructure and turn plain-English intent into structured strategies, with market monitoring and automated backtesting. The user remains the authority over every transaction, and exploration defaults to a paper-trading environment. Markets covered are the US, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan.
Best suited for: Traders who want AI analysis and pattern scans in the app and are happy to place orders themselves. The API route is for people who already build.
8. Coinbase, best for crypto agents with spending and trade-size limits
- Agent
- Coinbase for Agents (MCP and CLI)
- Can it trade
- Yes, crypto spot and derivatives, within limits you set
- Approval
- By limits (max trade size, permissions), not per trade
- Connects to
- ChatGPT, Claude web, Claude Code, Codex
- Assets
- Crypto; stocks and others announced, not live
- Cost
- Not stated separately
Coinbase for Agents, announced June 11, 2026, connects an AI agent to your Coinbase account so it can trade, pay and run workflows, within limits you control. It is available as an MCP server for web assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude, and as a CLI for Claude Code, Codex and similar terminal agents. Example uses on Coinbase's page include rebalancing a portfolio, monitoring cash and recurring trades.
Control is by permission: you set a maximum trade size and define what the agent can interact with and how much it can spend, and it only touches what is explicitly permissioned. Coverage is crypto spot and derivatives, with Coinbase saying it is expanding toward stocks, index funds, prediction markets and commodities; those are not live and are not counted here. A separate in-app Coinbase Advisor offers guidance and is not available in all locations.
Best suited for: Crypto traders who want an agent on an exchange account rather than a wallet. Not relevant if you only trade equities.

What a session looks like
On IBKR, the flow is: connect the account from Claude's connector marketplace with your IBKR login, ask "which of my positions has the largest unrealised loss and what would a 20% drawdown in tech do to the book," read the answer built from your real positions, then ask for a hedge. The hedge arrives as an instruction in the AI Instructions tab on Orders and Trades, where you read it, change it or submit it. Nothing trades until that click.
On Public, the same question works, but the next step can be a standing agent: "if NVDA closes more than 5% below its 20-day average, trim the position by a third." Public proposes the workflow, you edit it in follow-up prompts, sign off, and it runs. Prompt #005, the guardrails brief, is worth pasting before any of these so the size, the stop and the account are written down first.
Frequently asked questions
- Which brokers let an AI agent place trades?
- Public (in-app Agents and the MCP server), Robinhood's Agentic Trading beta (equities only), Coinbase for Agents (crypto), eToro's agent portfolios (not in the US) and, with a confirmation on each order, tastytrade and Webull. Interactive Brokers drafts instructions that you approve before they become orders.
- Can I connect Claude or ChatGPT to my brokerage account?
- Yes, at Interactive Brokers, Public, Webull, eToro (outside the US, Australia and Singapore) and tastytrade. IBKR and Webull offer native connectors in the AI platforms' marketplaces; Public and tastytrade use MCP servers; Robinhood exposes MCP servers for agents you bring yourself.
- Does Robinhood Cortex trade for you?
- No. Cortex can create a market, stop or limit order, but you review and submit it. Robinhood's separate Agentic Trading beta can place equity orders without input on each trade; it needs an agent connected through Robinhood's MCP servers.
- Do broker AI agents cost extra?
- Mostly no. IBKR, Public, Webull, tastytrade and moomoo include theirs with a funded account at standard commissions. Robinhood's Cortex and Digests need Gold at $5 a month. eToro and Coinbase do not state a separate price.
- Is it safe to let an agent trade my account?
- Every broker here says you carry the risk for what the agent does. The safer designs put a human between the AI and the market (IBKR, tastytrade) or make you set limits before anything runs (Public, Coinbase). Start in paper trading where it is offered, keep sizes small, and check the first fills against what you meant.
- What about Schwab and Fidelity?
- Schwab announced Charley on September 30, 2026, a generative AI assistant rolling out to US retail clients from October that answers questions and handles tasks like watchlists, alerts and dividend reinvestment; it is not described as placing trades. We could not verify an AI trading assistant on Fidelity's US pages.
